What's the diff between 13B-RE and -REW

what are the major differences between the 13B-REW and 13B-RE

Things i know for sure...

1-Motor mounts. I don't actually know WHAT is different about them other that the ARE different.

2-Intake manifold. Is one manifold "better" that the other

3-Intake Port sizes. Now this is where i'm confused, ive been told told that the -RE ports are larger, but the -REW makes more hp (232hp fo the RE and 255 for the REW (93-95)). What is the cause of this?

What else is different?

the RE is rated less because it served a different purpose than the REW. the RE had different turbos (smaller), smaller exhaust ports, different tune, and was automatic only. now, i've never seen factory (or private) dynographs for either the RE or REW in stock form, but i suspect you'll see a torque curve that starts earlier and spreads wider than that of the REW. the Cosmo was a more of a GT/luxury-type deal whereas the Rx-7 was an unapologetic sports car.

See that's what i wanted to know, the -RE has smaller turbos and smaller exhaust ports.

Actually, The RE has smaller steel exhaust INSERTS. They are the smallest I have ever seen and kill top-end power, thus the reason for the lower hp number. The intake manifold ports are MUCH larger and I prefer the overall design of the RE. Maybe it's because they easily fit into the 2nd gen as opposed to the REW which is much more of a pain and vice versa with the 3rd gen. I just built one up for my friend's 2nd gen and it's running roughly 330 at the wheels at 12psi on the stock twins running non-sequential, although I must admit, the rear turbo is wayyy small. I mean REALLY small. Oh yeah, the exhaust and intake ports are ported, as well as using the TII exhaust inserts.

i've never gotten my hands on an RE, so i can't confirm this outside of what i've read and pictures i've seen - however, i was led to believe the ports themselves (the faces) are not all that different from the REW. i have a picture of an overlay somewhere in my gallery that shows a template of a stock RE port over an REW plate. to me it looked like it just opened a little earlier. i think most people assume that the port face is bigger because it has such LARGE runner - which i know is a part of the port, but when people say larger ports, i automatically think of the port face.

anyway, until i get my hands on one, i just want to see if i can confirm is the port face on the RE actually larger than the REW?

The thing is that when you port the intake ports on the RE, the flow is soo much better, and this is where the larger intake runners really come into play. Velocity is better because the way the larger port runners will funnel down to the intake ports on the irons (which of course are "smaller" than the runners themselves) as opposed to an REW manifold which doesn't "funnel" as much with a streetport. The intake velocity is higher with the RE intake manifolds.

would the REW exhaust sleeves fit in the RE, or would that even be an upgrade?

Yes they will. Taking the sleeves out of ANY rotor housing is a pain, but yeah, they definitely go right in. Any 86-95 turbo 13B sleeve will work because they are all the same (2nd and 3rd gen that is)

IIRC, the turbos are both the same size front and rear.

i know for a fact they are two ht-12's on the REW engine.
