i gotta withdraw my previous entry of 140 mph
cause i hit 150 mph......well maybe not. i have 16/245/50's in the back so that would alter my speedo by 5 or so mph i guess. so lets say 145 mph.
well i dunno if im right with this speedo crap, anyone know how much does bigger tires on stock TII rims throw off your speedo?????????

From memory (usually right, but could be wrong), the top speeds for stock turbo RX-7s are:
88 TII 147 MPH
93 FD 159 MPH
I've only had my car up to 140 on the track (front straight at Willow Springs). It feels pretty reasonable at that speed, as I have to squeeze the brakes hard at that point and I am not worried about going out of control or anything. I am too chicken to go for a really high speed run on the street. It would be fun to rent a runway or do the Silver State Classic or something and open it up.
Don't take this as evidence that crashing at high speeds won't kill you, but there was a "big list" member who had his AST pop at 150 MPH and he spun and ended up in a fence without hurting himself or the car all that much. I guess the morals of this story is that this guy was a lucky bastard and that any problem at these speeds are likely to be big problems.
We've also lost some great people to high speed runs in the RX-7 community.

Dude... at 110mph with the windows open in my '80 on the back straight at Nelson, the rear carpet whipped forward and smacked me in the back of the head and tried to tangle my arms/shoulders!
Ever since that day my rear carpet has been safely rolled up and tucked behind the back seats
Also in that car, with the sunroof out, at over ~85mph the little wind deflector flap loses its battle with the headwind and it flips down and smacks my hat Funnily enough you can feel the difference the little 3"x24" flap makes in wind resistance, the car seems to surge forward after the flap smacks down. It doesn't go back up again until you nearly stop Also it's true that if you drive over 60mph in the rain, you don't need a roof! You do need side windows though

Did 130 on an NC highway againt a Firebird that was taunting me since the ramp. Would have gone faster but my exit was coming up. Oh yeah, kinda got scared too about getting license revoked cause I didn't have my radar detector that night.

I've hit the 205 Km/H in my old 1985 gsl running with 6K RPM
I've never had my 1981 12 A RX7 Turbo I (Elford) to the max , but I only ran it this far to 170 Km/H with only running 4K RPM! The speedometer is adjusted so it can point to the 240 Km/H but I'm not sure if this is done because it a first gen. 12 A Turbo.
Anyway I will find out this summer when I will be off to Austria to the European Mazda Festival (to kill off some 13B Turbo II's who never heard of a 12 A Turbo (which weighs only 1050 Kg's but has 185 Bhp))
Will be fun! :-)))
(there where only 500 12a RX-7's fitted with a Turbo, done in the UK with Mazda warrenty!)
