My opion is to run 11's with a stock twin turbo would be difficult to stay reliable. Even with all the reliabliity mods it's tough. It looks like many have blown their engines trying. This is why I am installing a single turbo kit. I hope I am making the right decision.

Takes a good launch and driver to do it as well as good RWHP dyno curve.

itll take about 450HP, 450 lb/ft of tork at the flywheel, give or take 50. the amount youll really need depends on the car weight, frontal area, traction, and transmission/gearing.

my 79 trans am, about 3600 lbs, frontal area similar to a 96 camaro, and OD tranny and 2800 stall converter, 3.42 gears is good for upper 11's, and it takes roughly 450HP@4500 rpm. its a Ram Air 4 motor, w/ some internal mods...should theoretically be around 490HP.

so, in a lighter car, w/ simimlar frontal area to a new camaro, about....what, 2800 lbs? 4.10 gears? you should fly w/ 400HP.

a T4 turbo will be the key ingredient. make a wish list if go-fast goodies bro!

yea, mad NOZ dude!

my buddy/CEO of Defcon motorsports is workin on a TT JZ81 supra. lets just say its got a HUGE FMIC, HKS equimpent, NOS wetshot, roll cage (not fake Monkeybars) and a huge *** hole cut out of his bumper for that HUGE *** FMIC. the hole is at least 20" tall and 30" wide. he cut it out w/ a cut off tool.

hes still building it, its not finished, but hes tryin to make it like a TT supra that hes seen on movie files. they are of the supra on a dyno, pullin 800+ hp. its silver too. just like my buddies. wierd.

no BS.

Here is what you need to run high 11's.....

intake, full exhaust, IC, Power FC running 14psi of boost and drag radials

If you want it really reliable get 1200cc secondaries and a new fuel pump. You could just run 14psi on the track with race fuel and 12.5 - 13psi on a daily basis but you probably be better off getting the upgraded fuel system

490hp??? damn that sucks. I have a 98 subaru impreza. dyno's at 182awhp and with a 100 shot of spray(dry). it weighs 3000lbs with me in it. I ran 12.222 @ 107.95 mph with a full interior big *** wing bodykit 17" rims...granted ive blown the tranny twice. but with a cool night and a stronger tranny Im sure I can hit high 11's

how did you get a 98 impreza to dyno at 182 awhp? My old 00 impreza before the turbo with intake and header back exhaust and underdrive pullys only dynoed at 142 awhp (like 190 crank) at sea level.. and it weighed in at 2800 ish lbs with me in it. And with a 1.8 60 ft time I hit a 14.2 at 96 mph (never busted a tranny either)
My current impreza (95 L brighton 2 door) is getting a ej22t swap after both my rx7's are finished.
And I believe Mike B is making like 350 hp in his rx7 with a custom stereo, body kit, lambo doors.... with a 1.6 60 ft time (I believe) is in the low 12's high 11's..... so it really doesn't take much to get there.

it was orig an L model (2.2 engine) put a 2.5 non turbo engine (forester block, legacy heads.) cobb spicey cams, mild port and polish, borla headers, hks superfire racing plugs, unorthodox racing lw pulleys and 11lbs flywheel, rs tranny and rear diff, wrx turbo and intercooler, 6psi, 100 dry zex shot, act1 stage 1 clutch kit, nology plug wires....i think thats it. Ive snapped 2nd gear twice and its on its way again....need to get a dog box or ra gears. Oh! and no engine management, no fuel management, stock injectors with just a walbro fuel pump.

I origionally built it as an experiment, my mechanic said it wouldnt last more than 2 months. 2 1/2 years later......never broke anything but the tranny.

when i launch, it spins all 4 wheels.

ahhh I see thats actually a preally good setup I was using a stock internally 00 2.5rs (wish I had gotten the spicey cams though) afterwards I turboed it with the old F.A.T. turbo setup but never dynoed it.. it was supposed to make 260 crank hp...so who knows. And I'd go with the type ra gears dog boxes are a bitch. One of my buddies was using type ra gears on his ej22t setup making 510 crank hp and he busted them... but they worked well for a little while.

only problem is that I never switched the wiring harness. Im still using the 2.2 wiring harness. problem is that the Iac sensor doesnt match up. So the car idles at like 2k rpms. and the check engine light is always on. other than that the car runs great. I want to get the gears but dont have the money right now. Although it would be great to drop the clutch at 5k with out breaking a gear.

wow the 2.2 wiring harness worked? didn't the 98's use a quad cam setup and the rest use a duel cam? or was that just with the ej25's? lol I dropped it at 6k once before I was turboed (after all the n/a stuff though) and before I knew the trannys were weak and I was able to pull the front wheels off the ground an inch, and not break the tranny. My buddies at project i.s. have it on one of there videos. god after talking about all this I kinda wanna build my subie now and wait on my rx7's.

yeah it worked, but like I said, not all the sensors are hooked up right. mainly the idel control sensor (thats why it idles at 2k rpm) I was actually thinking the same thing about building the subie again. I would love to see it run an 11 sec pass, and still have less money in it that a new base RS model....lol....also the 98 engines had the dual cams per head, but I had 01 motor.

just for thought

I ran 11.7 with a small single turbo and power fc, nothing else special. 15psi on pump. I really think i could have ran that with the stock twins though. I see alot of people whos times suck because they can't launch properly. And to respond to the supra comments. I owned one, and to run 11s with only $1500, could be believable. I know a guy running 10s with stock turbos and basic bolt ons. Supras are very nasty cars with RELIABLE power. Something rx7s havent heard of. BUT, I WOULD still rather own a rx7.

there really isnt a set hp you need to run a certain ET. power usually translates to trap speed more than anything. Look at that Rx3 all motor car that runs almost in the 9s with about 350hp. You can do alot with proper suspension setups.
