what to do to make 500hp

've been a 1st gen 12a owner but just picked up an 88 n/a and the motor is in peices and figure it's the best time to make more power but need to know what the best thing i should do. I know i'll be turboing it but not sure of all what i should do. I'm looking to get 400+ maybe 500 hp

15000-16000 dollars and you'd be set.

more aggressive cam shaft, a screw-type supercharger (intercooled), and definitely need to do a TON of headwork... oh, and a good bit of NOS

first wrong move.......you bought an NA.

Sell that NA and buy a turbo, not for the engine, but for all the other things that the NA doesn't have.

I'm really resisting the temptation to flame now, you really didn't think you were the first to ask, did you?

And as always......searching is your friend.

so is this site

That'll be my contribution.....if I were you, I wouldn't venture into the lounge anytime soon.....you have been warned.

making 500hp on an NA is damn near impossible. Best thing to do is to get a t2 motor, bridgeport, intake, exhaust, upgrade to a bigger single turbo and get all the supporting fuel and cooling mods. dont think you'll make 500hp, but an FC with 300+ hp is more than enough.

maybe even a 20b swap, if you got the money

not sure if this helps, just contributing my input

ok....take it from the veterans...No one is trying to bullshit you.
You will NOT get 500 hp out of an NA...200-220 max.
Get rid of the NA and get a Turbo model RX...Do some serious research on various sections of this forum before you jump into this project. You want to focus your attention in the Single Turbo subforum and the Rotary Performance subforum.

You will need about a 15k budget (at least) and a lot of patience.

well my thinking is i could go get a t2 j-spec but with the kind of boost i want to run i will need to tear down and port and such. but the 13b i already have is torn apart already so i could use that money the build this motor. but i'm a 12a gut so i know the in's and out's of what to do with that but unsure of the differences in the different 13b motors

We are saying it is in over your head because it seems that you did no research on the subject.

We are here for a reason, and that is to give advice. What is your intentions with the car? What is your budget? Do you need the car to be streetable?

We try to help out, but when somebody does not do any homework, and does not even realize you can't even come close to 500hp on a 13B, we are less likely to guide you in the right direction. It's just like somebody who wants answers now now now, and does zero research on their car or project and pays a shop to do all the work for them and then said owner takes all the credit.
