What Apex seal to use?
Ernie, you sound lost! First it's NRS, then RxParts, then "nothing but NRS"... It sounds like you need to change your builder/tuner, not the seals
There are lots of guys out there (Enzo, Roan, Tuna, etc) that have used the mentioned seals before with GREAT success.. So my conclusion is either your builder is not up to the task or you need to see a priest to shake off the bad luck..

Nothing personal against the guy on my end but this is how a lot of people feel. Maybe he will change his tune a bit but nothing has stopped him before.
No shots at Ray, he has always treated my customers right.
Probably the funniest thing I have seen on this forum, ever.

I hear they are already working on a sequel..

It's the events that led to his jumping off the bridge..
Im going to give some more input here with more first hand experience. If your building a 800+ hp car and NOT using meth as your fuel, NRS seals are going to be your only option. Im running a semi pport motor, balanced with every fortification done to the motor to prolong the life, ie..2 piece shaft, more dowels, stud kit, you name it, I've done it. That said, no matter if your running a safe 10.9 a/f ratio, safe egts (under 1500), the heat generated spinning upwards of 11000 rpm is just too much for a steel seal and it warps. The NRS seal is the only seal that can withstand this heat and keep good compression especially over a period of time. I will only use NRS seals from now on based on my experience.
Good post! So were dealing with a friction issue regardless of tune. This basically confirms why Mazda used ceramics in the NA 787b because they must have known this. Ernie why risk it? If the rpm's and lack of meth are the limiting factor for steel, can you not build your set-up to make your kind of power at a lower power band?
The video was funny but I thought it was nonsense. We should be more productive/solution oriented and helping each other figure things out instead of slamming people. We all have love for this engine.
Well regardless if he paid someone else to do all his mods or not, it takes a man to admit when your wrong (which he did). To show for it he got a ridiculous video made over it.
Following your idea of solving the problem.... when the softer seals warp... do they bend with the center moving backward (opposite rotation) like detonation is deforming them?
Or forward?
Does anyone have any pictures of warped seals at tear-down?
Thanks,
Barry
