want to get a rx7

I want to get a rx7 but i don't know much about these cars so can anybody help me.

There is a 86 ser 4 turbo for $7500 with rego and there is a 79 ser 1 nonturbo with no rego.

I would like to know witch one would be good for a first car as a project?

The main areas for me are cheap to do up, maintain and have a good amount of power.

Also any specs on the cars would be great thank you very much.

i think it will all come down to how much you're willing to do for yourself, but based on how you're asking the question, i would probably suggest getting the '79 because it's cheaper and less complex in a few key ways.

as you learn about these cars, then you can move up to turbos.

Thanks for all of your replys they have been very helpful.
but diabolical1 I didnt think a old car could be turbo and if so would u notice the difference in power.
Doing up a rotary is it the same as if you were doing up a normal car or are the thing you can and can't do to the engine, gear box and diff.
I sorry if I ask a lot of questions but I'v never had a rotary before and know really nothing about them.
Thanks again
