Turbo II or RX-8?

I am currently questioning myself a lot, on my future project. I don't know what to choose between an RX-8 and a Turbo II. I don't care about the respective power of these cars, because I am planning to fit another engine in it. Don't bother asking, the dark side will never be an option... 13B turboed it will be! ( I already have a lot of the parts I need.)

If I'm planning on selling them, does the price of an used Turbo II engine with transmission is about the same than an RX-8 engine + trans one? Is the RX-8 diff can handle 400+whp? I won't lie, I am on a "budget".

I know that keeping the speedo and tach working in an RX-8 with a different engine can be tricky, but is there an EMS that can manage it "easily"? I would also like to know if I can fit (with custom brackets) a TII transmission in an RX-8? Do you think that an HKS turbo manifold+turbo could fit in an RX-8?

I just don't want to rebuild the entire car and a 20 years car will certainly need more love, than a 2004 RX-8 body and frame. I've had 4 FC3S in the past, and I really like these cars, but the RX-8 are getting so cheap, that I can't resist to think about that option. Especially that the FC is keeping its value a bit too much around here, and that an RX-8 is a 4 seater. I know its hard to do a conversion in an RX-8, but I also know that rebuilding an FC can be a real pain in the ***. I am just trying to take the "easier" route.

whatever car I choose, I would like to keep the A/C, the power steering, and all comfort options (including cruise control).

So tell me what you all think! Thanks in advance!

oh my...

let me save you the hassle, if you go with an 8; contact Turblown, he should help you achieve 400+ whp.

if swapping engines is your goal, then get the T2, the rx8 tranny is brittle it and can't handle more than 400whp, and if it does mostly likely the axles will give.

it's a newer chassis and the suspension is superior to the T2, but swapping in a motor isn't exactly cheap.

I'm selling my 8, check my FS thread; if your planning on doing a swap then go REW Or 20b, a turbo FC will be more reliable than a Turbo 8.

I already have a 13b-re engine and I found a TII transmission recently, the turbo kit is comming in few days.

That is why I asked if the RX-8 differential could handle 400+whp, not the transmission (as I have one Turbo II transmission already).

I just want to sell the renesis and put the 13b-re in it.

if your on a budget, get the FC. I have owned 7 different FCs and currently own a RX-8 and FD. Both of these cars are expensive compared to the T2. I thought about getting a R3 Rx-8 and turbocharging it, but then I thought about it, and figured it would be more cost-effective to get a S1 Rx-8 and keep it NA and a FD which will outperform the Turbo Rx-8 anyday.

in no way shape or form will a 13b turbo fit in an rx8, like it does in an FC/FD. the left engine mount goes completely covers and surrounds the rx8 exhaust manifold.. thats why all the turbo kits you see mount it up front, and i've yet to see a PP style exhaust manifold for the rx8, so your looking at a custom affair there.

Sounds like an easy choice to me... Especially if your going to put a 13bt/re/rew in it. If you weren't on a budget and had a 20b then the 8 might be a good idea
