transmission compatibility.

I've done some digging and some research but have been unable to find what I'm looking for.
Outside of Miata and rotary transmissions, are there, and if so, what other manual transmissions will bolt up to the backside of a old School 13B?

It's going in my 94 Ford ranger, so everything is going to be custom, so mounts aren't a problem, and I've checked, the existing ranger trans is completely different and has an integrated bell housing.

Thanks in advance if you have any information.

the Miata transmission does not "bolt up" to a rotary. as i understand it the Miata (and other Mazda RWD models) has traditionally shared transmission types (the M and R Types) with the Rx-7s. that tradition carried on with the Miata and the Rx-8.

as i understand it, the Courier and then the Ranger, shared some parts with the B-series over the years. do you happen to know if the transmission is one of those parts?

here is an awesome thread that should be able to help you weed through some of the choices you have.

it looks like your ideal choice might be the S2 Rx-8 tranny, but ultimately, it's your project and your decision.

The transmission in my ranger is currently an M5OD. I knew it wasn't going to bolt up, but I still tested anyways haha. So now I'm debating using my T2 behind the 13B in my ranger or going another route.

Awesome! Thank you so much for the link. A 6 speed sounds like a good swap from the RX8, so time to read through that all the way and take notes.

the M50D was made by Mazda and the S2 Rx8 seems to be related. its unlikely but if you can use the tail housing of your trans on the Rx8 trans you'd have something that bolted in.
