Transaxle for the 13B

Ive been pondering this a few days and I cant think of a transaxle that will bolt to a 13b well. I mean sure you can get a few bolts in with an MX6 GT transaxle but I dont think it would be enough. Just wondering... There HAS to be something that will work.

there is an adaptor for a Mazda motor to old VW (air cooled motor ) trans axle. It cost $175 back then . The best part, I can not remember the name of the company.

Thanks everyone. I knew there had to be something out there. Michael - You need to come see the mx7. Mounts are in and everything is bolted up. Im going to try to get it started this weekend. I guess it would be ironic if I put that extra 13b thats in my garage in an mx6. Oh yeah and Im in the same boat as you now...engine is dead but porting templates, seals, gaskets and everything are on the way. Good thing I had a "new engine fund"

provided the 89 is n/a, i would think it should fit. btw, the bolt pattern on the rear housing that the tranny bolts to is the same, 13b or 12a.

when you say transaxle, do you mean FWD or RWD??

I am very curious of a FWD tranny that would bolt up to a 12a or 13b(same pattern). I have a 89 626 turbo. Seen a honda with a 12a in FWD, used an adapter for a FWD corona tranny.

I already have a RWD transaxle mated to my vw bus tranny in the back of my 66 baja. If you havent seen it here ya go.

I would like to find a FWD tranny that would mount to the rotary

Yeah are you telling me that a rotary is a close match for the MX-6 tranny?

I have an 89 MX-6 GT tranny here thats doing nothing right now...hmmm maybe I should put it to use.

Thumbs up

im doing a vw 13b project right now (old vw) and kennedy makes an adapter for damn near anything, if you need something specific they are usually down to make it. basically you get an adapter. and a modified flywheel to work with the tranny, but will bolt to the crank, then you use a clutch system meant for the type of motor the flywheel came from. so in my case. im using a vw flywheel (because vw transaxle) raceing disk and pressure plate.
for the flywheel and adapter it usually runs 400. but be carful they are really really cool and will give you any info you want. i spoke to kennedy himself for about 20 minutes picking his brain and he was very willing to help out, However they are suuper buisy all the time. so expect it to be a few weeks or more to get your stuff.
