Tow Dolly?

Hello All,

So I know there may be some of us out there that will be strongly opposed to a tow dolly, but... What do y'all think about this low cost option to tow my FB RX7 with me on vacation? I want to travel about 600mi, but I don't want to spend money on a rental. I'd rather spend the money on an asset I can keep. I can pick up a decent used dolly for ~$600. The link is the type of tow dolly I'm looking at called a "Master Tow," model 77T. I'd be using my Dodge RAM 2500 to tow the dolly with the RX7.

https://www.mastertow.com/towdollies

Thanks for the thoughts!

I’m confused on what you are trying to do, you want to tow a car with you on a vacation? You can rent a car for a month for $600 unlimited mile... how long is your vacation?

I want to use a tow dolly to take my RX7 on vacation with me. I'm planning on a week or so.

Nothing like your own . I went and got one and the best thing about it is you don’t have to ask no one or wait for a rental place to have one available. ! You got it when you need it and you can make a little money on the side if you want . So go for it .

Oh ok, I don’t know if the FB trans can be tow in neutral, if not you’ll have to pull the driveshaft, or tow the car nose down which you’ll have to secure the steering very well so it stays straight, especially you are going for long distance.

I bet that towing information is in the manual. Definitely going to check on that. Towing in Neutral was my primary concern, but it is a manual? I'd think it'd be fine, just not sure haha. I don't think I have the huevos to tow nose down with potential steering issues.

If u do use a dolly plz drop the drive shaft ik it's a lil more work when u go to tow but will save a lot of wear on the car

Dropping the driveshaft is best. The only issue I see is that you might loose trans fluid because of the trans angle. I towed a 1979 RX-7 from Connecticut to Kansas City with a tow dolly. No issues but I think I got lucky. If you're renting the dolly then I'd consider a trailer. They are easier to handle.
