Started this morning but not today ...

Wonder if this is a problem somewhere in the ignition?
I started my 86 RX-7 this morning ran it up to normal operating temps found some coolant running on the ground and promply shut her down -

so I know she didn't overheat and fry , fixed the bad clamp at the heater core rad side going into the firewall .

then replaced coolant , waited an hour to restart , and no fire just fast turn overs is all i got

Acts like she is not getting spark , b/c she would'nt even cough with starting fluid .

I am sure tomorrow morning she'll fire up again , but why would it take so long to get it to run , it is cooled off now . Anyone know what is causing this ? I think i have an ignition problem seperate from the hot temp from loss of coolant ?

Thnx for any help ...

I forgot why it may take an entire day to start again, Wet plugs from fuel and no spark? = )

I am going out to where the car is dead and spray plugs off with a can of air then i'll try and start her again .

Still don't know why she would not spark cause of hot temps ?

The plugs are more than likely fouled up. Take them out and try to clean them with a wire brush or something. You said the engine was up to operating temps so it shouldn't have flooded but if the problem recurrs it might be leaky injectors.

Well i haven't found any mazda parts stores on the web selling Injectors, wonder how much mazda gets for them ? I hear they are usally reatil priced

Ohh I like this edit feature it gives you full features like the new thread screen = )

I meant to say also , that i will find out first if those injectors are in fact leaking, before i go running out and buy new ones , Just getting prepared . My haynes book tells how to check them with resistance and ohm meter ... I will try that first , but still would like a good link where to buy , just incase .

Thanx for info if you have .

ohming them will only tell you if the widings inside are the correct resistance. not if they stick open, wont open or generaly suck. you can do a leak down test by priminmg the fuel pump with a pressure gague installed. crimp the feed line behind the gague and the return line. then watch to see if the press drops. if it does then one is leaking. are you getting spark?

WoW , I really need to get some diag tools then ...

Not to get on my soap box ,more like a kitty litterbox = ) But here it comes , I had a 1972 RX-2 in 1983 and a 1973 RX-3 when i was 18 yrs old and was loving the mazda difference way back then , I worked on my engine got a reman and swapped my toasted engine and kept everything running with very little tools ,

Now i am in the BiG boys ring with the EfI second gen playground . I guess i need to get out of the shade and learn this stuff , I really want to fix this stuff all my self just makes my head swim sometimes with all the different controls and valves and relays I have to go after to trouble shoot these monsters ...? Are the Gen 1-3 s really much more a racer than the RX2-RX4 s? I guess if so it will be knowledge well spent and I will be happy when i get my prodject car road-warriored .

It bothers me to talk to some people with their new RX-8 and have no Idea what a rotary engine is . All though I know I don't know everything about them either so I should not get too judgemental All though I have put in some of the wrench time !

Well I will get some pressure testing equipment this monday and start with your info and checkout those injectors to see what is really going on ... Thanx for your help . And sorry if I offended the new to Mazda Rotary members , didn't mean it that way ...
