!st time RX 7 owner with questions

Hi, Guys,

First off, I'm a rotary newbie. I just bought a 1986 RX7, 2nd Gen, with 168,000 miles. I've been looking for any information I can find, but it seems to be a little scarce. Can you please assist?

1st - What's with the premix? What's an FC or FD?

2nd - I have a vibration in the steering column, but it goes away and only comes back after I hit the brakes, any ideas?

Also, do these cars have an issue with flooding?

Lastly, for now, what is the starting fluid reservior for? and what goes in it?

Thanks.

Premix is what it is. You premix the oil with the gas when you fill up at the pump. Most people who use it have larger single turbo's, or just plain don't trust the OMP on there rx-7. Also it has to with the teeny tiny oil injection holes on the housings. Very very very small.

FC= 2nd gen rx-7. FD=3rd gen rx-7. Also for reference, you will hear s4 or s5, that is the series. s4=86-88. s5=89-91. s6=93-95(or may be even until 02).

Other problems I am not really sure about to be honest. Yes, the cars have problems with flooding if they sit, or you have leaking injectors. Also does not help when starting to push the gas pedal at all. This can also flood the car, and a matter of fact any car.

Not sure about the vibration, but it probably has to do with your front brakes/rotors. Or you just need an alignment done really badly.

Welcome to the club, and to rx-7 ownership.

Thanks very much for the info, however, While now I know that I should use fc or my specific car, I still do not know what it is. Also still have no clue as to the starting fluid reservior.

I think I tracked down my vibration to a tie rod, won't know for sure until the weekend.

So, you are saying that for the added protection, it's a good idea to use some kind of oil/gas mix? What do you suggest, though I will ost likely get it from where I work. I work for Apollo America, so I get my oils really cheap.

Anyway, thanks again!

Flood

If your car floods there is a wire harness that is under the left side kick
panel. Simply unplug it and crank the engine. It will starve then engine of
gas. Just as it is about to turn over plug the the harness back together.
It will run.

Paulied,

Thanks, it already came with a toggle on the fuel pump for this purpose, I was simply curious because of the existence of the toggle on it.

Also, I apologize, it was made clear what the fv, fd and such were, sorry. Still wondering abou the reservior though.

Also, is there a 'listing' of what I should now inspect/take care of or know as a 1st time fc owner?

and thanks again, Roh.
