speed sensor wire is burning up

My exhuast housing is burning up the wire that runs somewhere through the abs and along the "frame?" and through. My abs light is always on and the wire is about crisp, its very brittle, if I was to touch it ashes would fall off. Do I have to buy a new sensor or can I just replace the wire??? I know the speed sensor is very expensive, hoping I can go a cheaper way out.

The speed sensor is about $ 160 with the gear if I remember correctly. Just replace the wire and move it away from the exhaust.
