Something very wrong

Okay, went to work per usual and I let my friend use my car. When he came to pick me up he talked about the shifter getting stuck. I hopped in and drove it for myself, and it happened imedieately. The thing would not go into gear. I was in a panic and I threw it into netural, killed the car and started her back up again. This time it went in there. I continued on with my night and got to Seattle just fine. On the way back it was fine but as soon as I pulled infront of my friends house I felt somthing weird, a slight jerk. We played with the car some and assumed its the clutch slipping or the flywheel not tightened down...or something NOT happy. If you killed the car and started it back up it may or may not go into gear but I figured we should just throw it into gear and then start it to limp arround for a few days. I have 1987 Rx-7 13B engine blah, blah, blah my current clutch is a Centerforce Dual Friction. Can somebody please shed some light on my distressing situation.

Throwout Bearing?

I got to talk with some people yesterday at the Krispy Kerme meet and i've got two options, it could be my tranny oil getting too hot. Or my throwout berring tripping out. The weight of the tranney oil is like uber heavy 90-175 weight. My father accidently grabbed it and I didn't want to tell him to go get more so I used that. Should I change oil weights for that as well?

Or your clutch (or clutch cylinders) may be going.

Yeah, I'd say clutch master and/or slave. It happens now and then.

The pilot bearing's grease may have hardened with age. That could cause drag on the input shaft and make sfiting difficult amoung other things.

I'd say it's a clutch hydralic problem.

Uh... recommended oil is 75-90. You've got almost double the suggested thickness. That could certainly be causing problems.

It sounds to me like the clutch isn't disengaging properly. Have you checked the fluid level?

with a thicker oil, when it's warm it wouldn't give any problems getting into gear. it would only act like that when cold.

i'm tempted to say a hydraulic problem as well. however, that doesn't explain why shutting the car off would work.

Keep the theories coming, its giving me a lot to think about. I've ordered some new transmission seals, throw out berring and some royal purple tranny lube and i'm hoping this will take care of it. Yeah the gear oil was my friend's bad. Just didn't want it to go to waste and shucks was closed allready.

try pumping the pedal and see if it goes in better. i once had a leaky slave cylinder and had to do that when driving it.
