Tranny prob. someone please help.

ok i took the line of the right side of the radiator and dumped the tranny fluid. then dropped the pan and changed the filter but the new gasket on and put the pan back on. i ran the car for a few sec. when undid the line in first step to get the fluid out of the torrque converter.
ok ones igot everything back in place i started to fill her up. i added about 5 quarts then checked . well i used redline and BM trick shift which the fluid is clear little red i know. but eather way coultn really tell where it was. eather way let it run for a few min and took it thourgh the gears adn then took it down a littel run not high revs at all. then took it back in garage and checked fluid . still hard to read i figured i would add jone and half more to give me 6.5 in there. well then we heard it dripping. it was coimng out around the pan and lots of it.

question is did we blow the gasket ? did the system have fluid left it it? did we add to much ? or did we palin and simple not tighten the bolts enough?

please let me know as i this is my daily car. thanks

its a 87 N/A auto.

dont have time at the momoent for 5 sp change nor the knowledge. please some one give me some input on this

it really wasn't neccessary to do that if ur only doing a fluid and filter change. u probably pumped alot more than 6.5 qts out of it. if u were using a cork gasket, it's easy to over tighten and squeeze the gasket out. did u use any sealant? u may have to drain it all back out and start over.

i wanted to change all of the fluid thats why i went this route. yea i useed the cork one the one that came in the kit. didnt know there was any other one i could get from the parts store.
sealent well no i didnt use any i guess i shouldve huh. we didnt tighten the screws down to much causei knew they werent tight to begine with. like i said the car was off and it started to come out the pan.

there was really no way for me to know if there was fluid left in the system . so i dont know if i poured in to much. i bought 8 quarts and had 2 left at the end on the night when i started to hear it come out.

let me know anyomore thoughts.

withthe sealent, do i apply it to both the ban and the tranny metal so that both sides of the gaket are covered?
let me know. thanks

that's how i do it. then tighten the bolts evenly all the way around til the gasket starts to squeeze out. then let it sit an give the sealant time to cure. some sealants say to let it "skin" over before assembling the parts.
