rx8 motor swap

Ok here is my idea just wanting to know if its possible.

I am looking at taking a rx8 motor and replacing the front cover with a 12a cover useing the distrubuter. Then build a intake to fit the weber ida or possibly a side draft carb. Also I am wanting to use a 2nd gen transmission. Any info if this is possible and possible problems.

I am putting the motor into a 77 Celica and I am trying to stay away from useing a comp which is why I want to use a weber instead of fuel injection.

Also will it matter which block I get manuel or automatic I know there is a diff in HP but is it only because of the computer or is it a diff motor completely.

thanks
Aaron

*ahem* first off I would like to say good luck on securing the Renesis. From what ive heard you may just want to find a reliable 20B cosmo to install instead of the problematic RX8 powerplant. But if you do wish it then I say go for it, though I hope you have the wallet to back up such a challenging build....But if you want a cheaper solution and want a more reliable engine in the end, go 20B. You can get near limitless power from one and they are not as expensive as the Renesis.

I seen quite a few rx8 motors for $2500 and less I have yet to see a 20b for this price. What problems are these motors having? PLus going carb on a 20 would be much more difficult to design. Plus what about spark since I said I dont want to go with a computer.

Thanks
Aaron

well the problems, according to the mazda dealership mechanics, is that if you improperly shut the car down, I.E. just turnign it off, you can and will foul all teh plugs and it wont start. the proper way to shut it down according to the owners manual is to run it to 5500 rpm then shut it off whit it running like that. Thats just one. But id say its even harder for you to run a car on it as well, why not just instead go for the 13B if you find the 20B too much for the wallet, they sell carb kits for it on racing beats site.

The biggest reason I thought a rx8 motor was because it would be new and I could get one for about the same price I could rebuild a 20+ year old 13b motor

First off the 2nd gen tranny and front cover wont fit. The bell housing bolt pattern doesn't match up. Here's one for sale o0n ebay.

well so unless I get a 6 speed tranny also it looks like a no go for this transplant. Plus I dont know how I could get spark with out running the comp. Thanks T-von for the info

a renesis block does bolt up to a s4 NA tranny, I have done it. The reasons I would stay away from a Renesis

1.price way cheaper to rebuild a 13b
2.the apex seal design sucks and they are too hard
3.the side seal clearances from Mazda are ridiculaous and not consistent
4.after roughly 10 hours of run time the entire insides are completely caked in carbon build up, which will lead to an early failure of a seal.

and to answer your other questions, I am pretty sure a 13b front plate fits a renesis, and a carb may be difficult to find a manifold for, as well as settings. Again, would be easier to build a 13b use a SE dizzy and than a Weber IDA with a 6 port manifold, or 4 port whatever your using for a motor. You could probably have a engine rebuilt, buy a dizzy and the carb/manifold for cheaper than a new renesis.
