RX-7's ARE SLOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, I got your attention. My friend who just got a 94 RX-7 his pulling his engine out. He his having the dealership do it, but i said i could do it for cheaper. So besides a cherry picker and a haynes manual is there anything I should now, like any tips or trinks that won't be found in the manual. Also, i've been told taking the engine out is a bitch. Can someone enlighten me if this is true or not. BTW, i love RX-7's. My neighbor has one that was tuned by Petite racing and all i can say is WOW!!

Here are some tips that might help.....

Disconnect the harness from the ecu and slide it out so that the main plug rests on the top of engine.

MaKe sure and take the bolts that hold the clutch in place before you take the engine out otherwise it will not come out.

When you take the oil lines that go to the coolers, there are 2 little metal clips that hold them, but them in a safe place. Also, when you take the injectors out, there are these little o rings, put them in the same safe place.

To take out the FD engine is relatively simple. You dont even have to take the hood off but I would recommend you do it since you will have more room to work with.

You should life the engine 1/4 way out and then take the AC compressor off, this way you do not lose his freon. Even if the AC was not charged I would do it this way since so you do not lose any orings etc...

Get some bags and label them for all bolts. You dont even have to label them since you will remmeber where they all go.

Once the engine is out, soak the bolts taht hold the turbo to the manifold with WD40 while you work on the rest of the engine.

Your engine mounts are most likely broken, mine break all the time. While the engine is out, good time to detail the bay. Good time to change the clutch etc..

Its sunday morning and I should be eating breakfast!!

See ya.

haynes does not make a manual for third gens. go to the dealership and ask if they can copy the pages out of their manual for you. it should all be in section C of their manual.

2 healthy guys could lift a 13B engine with a 4x4 on their shoulders. I hear some guys say that they could lift it by them selfves but i would try it; walking hunched is not pretty.

thanks you guys. As for as pulling the engine out, there is no point in killing myself. I'll just get a cherry picker and pull it right out. I'll keep you guys posted on it and even take pics if you guys care for it.

remove the motor mounts from the engine. Its much easier to leave the mounts in the car. They hang up on the bottom and become a pita.

eddie - I've heard of Petit Racing but never Petite. It must be a smaller company(pun intended)

I knew it was something like that. I never really paid that much attention to the spelling of the company name.
