runs, but shakes under 1000rpms & blows blue exhaust

'79 RX7 with upgraded exhaust and electronic ignition...
The only rotary guy in the state messed with my OMP last week (w/o tools) and that day my baby started dropping oil and blowing blue exhaust. I checked oil, put a quart and half in and the next day, she choked. Going 70 on the freeway, she quit, dumped all her oil on the ground and has sounded like crap since.
I changed oil, filter and plugs.
She starts, but shakes HORRIBLY until she gets past 1000 rpms... blowing TONS of blue exhaust the whole time.
What do you think?

It sounds like a blown apex seal, or maybe one or more of your plugs are fouled. Have you done a compression check? Checked spark? When you say it dumped all it's oil on the ground, where did it come from?

The oil came from the middle of the engine... I couldn't tell where, but the underside of the car was Covered with it. And I changed the sparks the other day, but the guys at the parts store screwed up and gave me the wrong ones... they looked pretty standard to me. My book said standard ones were okay, but I've heard recently that they're screw up your motor. I ran the car once with them in! I've since got the right ones and replaced them, but there's no difference in the way it runs.

What does fixing an apex seal require? I'm very new to the rotary world (obviously), but I've worked on a lot of regular cars before, so I kind of know my way around.

I haven't checked the compression. It occurred to me, but don't know how.

I hate to admit that it might be best to bring it to someone. There's no one around here but the idiot who looked at my car in the first place.

Thanks for the response! Keep it comin'... I miss my kid!

First, I think you need to find out where all that oil came from... to me your oil problem sounds unrelated to the running problem. The shaking at idle is one of the tell-tale symptoms of a blown apex seal, though.

You really need to do a compression test to check the apex seals. It isn't that easy to do on a rotary engine, since each rotor has 3 combustion chambers. Here is a link http://www.rx7turboturbo.com/robrobi...ompression.htm

If you do have a blown apex seal, then that pretty much requires an engine rebuild. It's the equivalent of a broken piston ring.
