Rebuilt engine storage life?
Rebuilt engine storage life?
Rebuilt the engine a year ago, has never ran or rotated since the initial build and a couple of rotations to test and seat the seals if that is a thing. It lays dormant with maxx tuff marinating the insides. Not sure it will see action this year. Should I be worried about anything?
I’m by far no expert, but a friend of mine managed to find a fc 13bt crate engine around 4 yrs ago, brand new, had never left the crate from mazda, had been sitting in a guys garage since he bought it back in the 80’s,
they installed it in his car and was fine, no issues at all, i bought the car from him and it was running a gtx3582r, microtech and around 300rwkw, ran rich but no issues with the actual engine.

its totally fine. its good practice to spin it over here and there, and then you want to keep water out of it, plastic bags are good here, tape/etc
i built an engine in 1999, and didn't put it in the car until 2005, and its still running today.... or actually the P Port went together in 2006, and sits around a lot, and its fine too (actually its mad at me, it wants to run and crew on furniture and stuff)

It depends completely how it was assembled. I use copious amounts of vaseline over any sort of assembly lube for just that reason since our B engines may not be used for a few seasons (we hope). The important things to double check are things such as injectors as they do tend to get stuck/cruddy right out of the box.
