Rebuilt engine for 2-5k?

Im sorr if this is a typical question and if this is posted anywhere else please tell me.

I have a mazda 3 now and am looking for something else with more power. I was considering a wrx with minor mods or an rsx. But a friend told me that i could get a Rx7 with 100k miles or so for $9,000 and then put $2-3,000 to rebuild the engine and it will be like new and be reliable for 60,000 plus miles. Besides the engine rebuild, new injectors, and new fluids, what else would be required for this? asnd is it really as simple as it sounds?

Even simpler.
You can find a solid RX-7 Turbo II in your price range and not even have to rebuild it

edit:
Check the 2nd gen FS section:

I would only want to get the newer model. Gen 3 I think?

I am not extremely knowledgable with cars and would want somebody else to do All the mechanic work.

What are the general upkeep costs of keeping a gen 3 rx7 that could be gotten with $15?

When things do go wrong, what usually does and how much does it cost to fix(parts/labor)?

Or i could get one for cheaper and hold money in the bank in case it messed up. But i really dont want to have to worry about the car all the time.
Would i be better off getting an 02 wrx with high miles and rebuilding that engine?

sorry for the newb questions but i have no where else to go.
Thanks for any help.

Well, for 3rd Gens I'll gracefully bow out. My area of expertise is 1st gens, and I know a fair bit about 2nd gens. 3rd gens are bit out of my league.

I do know a 3rd gen RX-7 will put down a WRX or RSX without breaking a sweat, and that your price range isn't unreasonable...

Try posting in the 3rd gen section of the forum.

you'll need more budget than that for a reliable 3rd gen.

you can get a damn solid, fast good looking Turbo II for that kinda money though.
