PA rebuild question

hey guys i blew my motor about 7 months ago it overheated and i believe a seal went. Thing is it still will crank over (hard sometimes) but it smokes like crazy. So should i tear it apart and see the dmg or just save up and try to buy a engine off someone doing a swap and rebuild that?

ps i am at a tech school so i have all the tools and time

I would tear it down and see what you have to work with. Do that before you buy someone else's problems. Since it over heated you'll definitely need to check for warpage on all housing and plates. Also check the plates for coolant passage integrity .... I had one of those fail once.
