Problems with new RX7

I have a 2nd gen N/A Rx7 I just bought tonight. I got the whole car for a hundered bucks. It is all stock except cone air filter and a muffler. I was messing with it tonight and I have found 2 major problems thus far

1. When running it starts backfireing at higher rpms 4k or 5k it seems to be running rich also....I am going to put in new plugs thursday and see if this helps at all...I knoew the plugs wires and ignitions coils are only a little over a year old...but it has sat for the past 11 months....any other idea as to what could be causing the back fire??

2. the car seems to flood very easy...I have read some post about the injectors leaking very easy..so i am thinking that is the problem...but is there any other areas that could cause this

I am GM mechanic and the rotory is new to me

thanks for the help
Dustin

First check for loos grounds. There is a ground wire that bolts to the block under the intake manifold near where the injectors plug into the block, also check to make sure the AFM is right side up. The AFM as you know is the paddle type as were most AFM of that year and gravity tends to pull it open when it's not sitting correctly. Let me know if this helps any and well go from there.

go back to basics!

Even though you are a mechanic you will need a little reprogramming..i may be new here but the first thing that i did after putting a downpayment on my 88 RX7 was to get a haynes manual...read it ,use the computer to research what a rotary engine was and I eventually found this forum...go through the topics on this site and it will give you vast amounts of info..after all YOU HAVE JUST ENTERED THE TWIGHLIGHT ZONE!..the guys on this forum are experienced so ask ..just don't do then reget it!!.Even though the plugs and wires are "less than a year old "...i would probably replace them...use ngk wires and plugs .change the gas filter ..it's been sittin around (still suckin the old gas it was stored with?)..fresh gas would be good for it!..just a couple things i can think of anyways..hope I haven't pissed of anybody for bein a newbie and speakin up but I got the info from the manual and reading what you guya have suggested !!Toe stepping totally unintentional!
