Exclamation porting question

3rd gen
Ive read just about everything I can find on porting over the past few days in confidence that I would not have to ask a question. As it turns out no one has really answered any question I have in any of the other threads they always turn out to be who has a bigger, (you know what)

I will say this beforehand if you are not going to answer the question or dont have any insight please do not post as it would be nice not to have to sift through the clutter i see in every porting thread. I say this with the utmost respect to those that have the knowlegde about this area, and those who dont.

As I have read most of the threads and they revolve around na applications and then the occasional boosted 13b . I understand that porting a turbo motor you are taking lest stress off of the turbo so you are running less volumetric pressure because it is being run through the motor more efficiently hense the reason why you can run a higher psi with a ported motor. (this is what I get from reading all the threads)
Now I understand the need to add more fuel bigger injectors fuel pump better tune, im working on that part.
I have a motor that was built professionally but in the need of a rebuild. runners were shaved and polished nothing crazy but the exhuast side is still untouched.
Now being that its a turbo application if I ported the exhuast size to the max and I mean almost the equivlant to pp and sleave it. Then custom make a manifold to match the port. then extend the intake to a mild street port. I assume that the turbo will spool faster at an earlier rpm and max out sooner which will lower my powerband. this will intern let me run more power at a less rpm and sooner with more fuel. At a stable psi I can then keep the power through the powerband and use it to my advantage correct? Or are there consiquences for over porting your exhaust (if done properly) that I am not aware of ?
I undertand that this really is a common sense question but it really hasnt been covered and for some reasaon I dont think Im asking this question correctly but Im sure I will have a better way to ask it once I get a few replies.

idea illistrated

ok so idea is 3 inch port milled at an angle to accomidate flow and a sleave made with a bridge. this will be inserted into the port. the inside of the sleave will be ceramic coated to help with heat displacement. the bridge is to help with any stress to the apex seal due to the ammount of space removed.
water jackets will be sealed only they will more than likely be welded. havent got that far yet.
obviously not autocad but will be done on autocad before ports are made with precise measurements and degree of the port

Well sense no one has any real input I'm just going to have to do it and see how it willand turn out. I will post pics of the process, and log results.

it's an interesting idea but it's overkill and won't get you the gains you think it will. technically you're trying to make your exhaust outflow your intake and the massive porting will overlap more into the intake stroke, resulting in less power all around.

i do like the idea of the bridge though but keeping it in place and matching the expansion/contraction rates of the housing is going to be next to impossible.

Yeah, from what little I know about porting and tuning the port size and shape will greatly effect your timing. And your timing will effect your overall power.

I think the reason why most established shope are close-hold when it comes to their porting is because between the port size/shapes, and their ECU maps, you can basically pull all their secrets which make them stand in competition.

For a base porting guide I would suggest getting the metallic templates from someplace like Pineapple Racing, the porting video from Mazdatrix and go from there.

I wouldn't try to do anything too radical off the bat, as you may just ruin a perfectly good set of housings.

It's interesting when people try and remake the wheel. Use an established exhaust template for your specific need. Just remember bigger isn't always better either. I remember a well known race shop used a simple kidney intake port on the middle housing and that port made better power than other existing larger ports.

Your rotor housings are only 80mm wide... if you do a 3" opening then there will be ~1.9mm of housing material on either side of the opening.



End piece sure looks to be around 2mm (don't have any handy to mic)... which means your apex seal is literally going to just fall out of your sleeve. If you don't have the experience/foresight/whatever to recognize such an obvious issue with the idea then you will likely be much happier to go with a standard porting template, or better yet the stock ports.

i'm pretty sure he gets the point now, hopefully not after junking several sets of rotor housings already.

lol yes like I siad it was just a rough idea after measurments are all taken into account im sure that I would not be doing a full 3 inch bore infact after reading that post and doing more research its not so much the exhaust port that matters (although it does take in account) as the exhaust scavenging created by the style of the manifold is really what hinders the proformance. Im finding this out from more and more research over various topics revolving around exhaust in general. This is accross the board as far as engines go. unless you are running a top fuel drag car with open headers and nitrous where it doesnt matter. Im am still thinking I want to create a sleave with a bridge even if I loose a few seals in testing. there are an abundence of older rotary motors in a few of the junk yards out here where Im at only they are fc's figure I can use them for R&D

through more research ive found that there is not much you can really do as far as changing the mani for a turbo application besides shortining the runners. idk guess you guys talked me out of it think ill just stick to porting templates. if it works it works right.
