Overheating Engine !!

Hi everybody.

That's my first Thread in this Boad.

I'm from Germany and i have a Japan imported RX-7 Type-R Barthurst with 50.000 miles.

Unfortunately my 7 have some Overheating Problems.

I have wrote this email to "Hurley Engineering", because GB is the nearest Specialist from Germany.

Email to Hurley:
Hello Hurley Team,

i'm from Germany and i have big trouble with my Japan imported RX-7 FD 95".

In germany nobody can help my, because we have ne specialists for
Rotary(Wankel) Engines.

My engine have 40.000 miles und was only modified with an Apexi PFC (Standard Attitudes) with FC Commander. Other mods are Koyo Radiator, High volume Fans, Sard Thermostate, Downpipe, Midpipe and NÜR Spec R Exhaust.

Now my problem:
I have extrem overheating. If i drive 200kph water goes to 110° Celsius
(cooking) und Oil to 130° Celsius. Even faster more Temperatur.

I don't know what kind of Problem it is ?? Any Idea. The PFC have standard attitudes directly from Japan.

Have you any Ideas ?? Perhaps Waterpump or O2 Sensor. Radiator is new. Hoses are new. Thermostate is new.

How can i check the O2 sensor ?? Any way to check with the PFC?

I have check bubbels in the water, but water is OK. So i think engine is OK.

I don't know what i can do...

Hello Peter,
Sorry for the long delay in replaying.
From what you say it sounds to me that you will need you engine rebuilding?
The internal seals have gone .Its quite common with Jap imports with only 40/60K miles, we see it all the time. Sorry for the Bad news

We can supply you with a spots engine £3250 exchange, You can bring the car to the UK or we can send the engine to you?
We are 200KM from Dover, all motorways.
If you want give me a ring on the phone and we can talk more about it

Best regards,
Eamon Hurley

Wow Type-R Barthurst, nice car. With the mods u have I dont see why it would be overheating, but it could be the thermostat.

wait a minute......200 kph is ~124 mph....so i would think things would tend to get warm. what is it like at slower speeds?

@RotaryWeapon

Thx... !! Why overheating ??? That's the problem i have !! Thermostate is new. I have changed.

@BMS2004

It would tent to get very hot !! Even faster even more temperature, but if i drive only 140kph ~85mph water and oil are OK ! Water have 87° Celsius and Oil 80° Celsius. But if i start to speedup temperature goes in few seconds far about 100° Celsius ~212° Fahrenheit and more. Oil the same.

If i drive slower again, temperatur goes down.

@all

Any Ideas what i can do ??

Peter

The only thing I can think of is that the thermostat isnt opening. If the temp goes up that fast, thats all I can think of.

my oil thermostat(FC) is located on the oil cooler, which is the smallest and front most radiator. if ur oil pressure is fine then I'd say that's not likely it. I wasn't aware the internal seals caused overheating when they went...... I thought they just caused ur engine to eat coolant like mad.

Sorry, but I think Hurley is completely off..... there's no way they can tell from that distance the engine is shot with only the info you gave them.

water Temps are a bit high for 200 Kmph but not extreem, oil temps are indeed much higher than desired.

But these problems can have simple causes, indeed the thermostat, or maybe as simple as a missing ductplate in the nose (wich causes the airflow to escape under the car instead of flower through the rad. and engine bay)

And I also must state the are 'enough' Rotary shops in Germany, and we're in The Netherlands, near the germany border

Feel free to contact us , to have a look, no strings attached, but it is impossible to solve this from a distance with only this information. Also , I don't think it the waterseals either, you would have more signs if the waterseals are the problem

Where are you living in Germany Peter?

Greetz and congrats with the Bathurst, it's very nice!
