Oil suggestions?

People seem to think you're able to use both mineral and newer synthetic oils on rotary engines.
I recently bought a 1993 RX-7, and wonder if people have any good suggestions on which motor oil to use, which brand etc?
I'm considering both mineral and synthetic oils.

welcome to the board.

you'd probably be doing yourself better service by searching and getting more real-world experiences, but i've noticed that many of the more savvy rotorheads seem to use and recommend Idemitsu brand motor oils. take that for what it's worth ...

What about Royal Purple? I hear they're pretty good as a synthetic motor oil for rotary engines.

I tried to use the search before posting, but it must have been broken at the time, 'cause it wouldn't return any results, wouldn't respond to me pushing the search button...

deish,

There is always a huge debate about synthetic and mineral oils. Regardless of the debates, the synthetic oils today or not the same oils back in the the late 80's when the 3rd Gen RX-7 was being created. Having said that, just pick a popular brand that you have easy access to and get the proper weight. I would recommend running 10w30 unless you are putting the car on a track (road course). When tracking it, I would run something a little heavier like a 50 weight.

I'm thinking about using 5W50, as the temperatures here tend to get kind of low and never really high. I'm going to go with synthetic, as it doesn't seem to be a problem anymore with newer kinds.

Anyways, thanks for your input, much appreciated

I know this is a repetitive topic. I always read it though, just to stay in the know.

Mahjik, it's posts like yours that I really appreciate. You are always informative and looking out for giving people solid suggestions. Just wanted to say thanks.
