NOT so COOL COOLANT

quick question, new to the rotary world, i just came across an 86 and after a minute or so after starting the car, the add coolant buzzer goes off, within a few more minutes car tends to overheat, and car burns coolant i think, which spews out the exhause in the form of CLOUDS. the smoke is so dense i cannot see through the rear view.... has anyone else experienced this problem? and if so what can i do to fix or stop it? thanks.....

The car has a coolant seal failure. The engine will need to be torn down and at least one iron housing will need to be replaced along with the usual rebuild items. These iron housings can be had for pretty cheap, but if there is substantial rust from the user adding only water for an extended amount of time, you may need to find another rebuildable core engine.

Where in VA are you?

EDIT: And if the car has overheated several times, you will likely have some warpage, which also turns an engine into scrap.

When there is THAT much collant being burned the only thing left to do is rebuild the gnine. The smoking is due to failire of the coolant seals in the engine. Coolant seaps through the old/damaged seals and into the combustion chamber where it is burned along with the gas/air mix.

Sorry to say but you need that engine rebuilt. There might even be more damage done if the car was run at long periods of time with this problem.

Whatever you do DO NOT USE COOLANT LEAK FIX. That stuff turns into a jelly like substance and will only make things work.

Hope this helps.
