no power to fuel pump... please help

ok i have an 88 SE, and it went through an engine fire from a cracked gas line before i got it... previous owner made a 87 wiring harness "work" for it, but it now will only run when u spray fuel into the fuel injection constantly and it has NO POWER to the fuel pump... i figured it's a problem with the wiring harness part to the fuel pump, and i know i need to hook up a toggle switch to the the fuel pump anyhow fer a fuel cut off switch for flooding... Can anyone tell me where to find the wires or possibly know where to find a wiring diagram that would tell me where to run along for the wires??? Any help would be most appreciated! ohh yeah, and yes i did check the fuses...

on a second note, i've looked everywhere for a descent full body kit for my 88rx7 and i can't find any, anywhere any links or places i could find one, would also be much appreciated....

thanx alot...
peace

right, maybe you ought to make the car dependable before throwing the rice on it. go get a haynes manual. it will have the wiring diagrams and wire color charts. there should be quite a few threads on the fuel cut switch if you search.

shut off switch for the fuel pump? if that is what you are talking about then that is an add on you would have to do. it isn't oem. however, start at the pump and follow the wiring. the haynes should have some diagrams showing the wiring running through the car and a detail off color wire at each connector.

Haynes = convenient crapola.

I would suggest downloading the FSM as it's wiring diagram will show you component & connector locations.

I'm assuming you've checked the fuse. First thing I would check would be the relays.

Cheers

OK thank you much... this helps out ALOT better... but now i got another question... OK i've been researching about rx7's constantly and hope this will be the last car i buy heh heh heh... well i read someone that my year of car (88) was the first year they came out with the 13b na making 160 hp factory and before that it was like 145 or something like that... if i have an extra computer from an 87 (i wanted to try that ecu to see if the engine fire caused the ecu to fry).... well is this true, because if it is i won't be able to plug in the 87 ecu to find out if that's part of my problem... if i'm correct there's at least one wire that goes to the ecu from the fuel pump, to kinda let the computer know wut's going on with it... like an information line or something... sorry vocab is pretty bad being a back yard mechanic and all lol... and as for this being a POS computer... yeah it's my lil bro's, cause mine needs a new motherboard and processer otherwise i'd be sitt'n ok as far as doing stuff on this thing....

THANX AGAIN!

I don't think you would have a problem switching ECUs. I found this thread on the issue.

The only thing I was thinking was the injector impedance thing. If you have, in your 88, high imp. inj. and the 87 must be low. I'm not sure if the impedance thing carries over to the NAs but I thought so.

Here's another thread on ECU #s.

I wouldn't think an engine fire that you've recovered the car from would damage the ECU. Have you checked all your relays? If you jumper the yellow connector on the R shock tower and turn the key to ON, do you hear the fuel pump run continuously. The AFM also has a fuel pump switch in it I think.

Another thing I thought of after reading your first post again was what had to be done to "make the 87 harness work"?

Injector clips are all on tight? Or are you positive it's the fuel pump?

Hope some of my rambling helps. Cheers
