need help with oil pan

i have an 83 GSL and im trying to replace the oil pan gasket. i have the pan off the bottom of the engine, but i cant get it out from underneath the car. i have a bar for the steering blocking one way and the frame blocking the other way. im trying to get the steering bar out of the way, but it is an old car and the bar wont come off. any help or advice would be great--thanx

Can you slide the old gasket out without totally removing the pan?

VERIFY THIS FROM SOMEONE ELSE FIRST, I've done it on other cars, but not the RX-7 I cannot guarantee that it is safe or wont damage anything. Get a hoist on the engine or a jack under the bellhousing. Lift it up just enough so that the weight of the engine is off the motor mounts. That should give you a bit more space to work with. Since you've got it up, you might wanna do the motor mounts too.
