i take it you've never worked on one before ....

hard will depend on (1) what tools/equipment and assistance you have available, (2) how well you can translate common sense into mechanical skills and (3) how well you can follow instructions. all you need is a shop manual.

pull the engine and transmission along with the Oil cooler and the Electrical Harness.keep them all attached to the engine.you should disconnect the engine harness at the ECU(located on the passenger Floor way up,under a Floor pate,Under the rug..remove the bottom plastic door sill that says Madza on it,and Take of passenger Side Kick panel, and Pull back rug from the top under the dash)..now the Drivers sisde harness is pretty easy.Remove that from the Components on engine, along with Disconnecting Fuel,Throttle cable linkage, starter wiring, coil wring,Cas wiring, etc.the back on the firewall are Heater hoses, brake hoses,a couple electrical Grounds, and a few Connectors, all sizes and different, you shouldn't be able to get confused because they not all the same...that is the EASY WAY..the hard way entitles taking the harness of of Each connection on the Engine, and that involves Top engine disassembly,Therefore New Gaskets..I am saving you from Tearing the engine down and taking th eengine and transmission out as One complete unit..Good Luck,..,drain all fluids..the Trans TOO!..tail stock will leak when you pull the driveshaft off.I hope that help...There is another way TOO...Change the Dash, and the TWO Plate VINS,and hide the firewall VIN.since both cars are in your possession it shouldn't really be an issue if stopped, and they "really DIG INTO IT"/(But this is NOT Recommended at all!!!!). IT is Up to you whether you want to commit this kind of Vehicular Fraud!..it is an Illegal act...so SHHH!..)..See??..there is an Easy way and a Hard way..I just thought I would Let you know Most of the Options..Good and Bad!. I hope the Mechanical Info helps you! The other Stuff,My Dog Typed that!

well, as i said, it's not hard as long as you're not completely mechanically inept. all you need is a shop manual - maybe get the factory manual and a Haynes or Chilton to supplement. if you take the time to label all the wiring with masking tape, all you're really doing is loosening the motor from it's mounts, separating it from the tranny and lifting it out.

rent an engine lift, maybe get some beer and call up a buddy. even as your first time, you can do it all in a weekend.
