Question looking at a 86 gxl . . .

I'm looking at a white 86' Rx7(fc) GXL with 113,692 miles, power steering, power windows, power door locks, sliding sunroof, air conditioning, and has new tires on. This guy wants $1995 for it. Is that too much or to little asking price?
I looked under the car and it doesnt look like it has any leaks or anything. What mechanicial signs should I look for so I know that the engine is in working order?
thanks for the help,
Tommy B

Make sure there's no rust on the body. Make sure the frame is good. Check exhaust for leaks (expensive to replace).

Make sure it idles nice at ~750. Turn on the elec accessories, idle should drop and go back up immediately. Turn on ac, idle should shoot up to 1000-1100 rpm when compressor engages.

Ideally, check the compression of the engine. You can use a regular gauge (just keep the schrader valve button pushed in). Look for 3 even pulses on each rotor. 80+ psi would be great for such mileage. Lower could still be ok but expect the engine not too last too long (maybe 10-20K miles). Note that if it idles great and hot starts are a breeze, compression is probably ok.

Ask if car floods easily. If it does, leaky injectors or soon to be shot engine or both.

About the price, that sounds reasonable if body and interior is near perfect and the new tires are quality.

Hope this helps,
Hugues -
