I have done some research about good driving habits for the rotary style engine found in the Rx-7. Most people say that you should have the engine run for at least 30 minutes to prevent excessive wear on seals and what not. Is this true and if it is, is there a system to keep the car running at a specific RPM for a certain amount of time?
All help is greatly appreciated

lol who told you that stuff. All you need to do is warm up and cool down. 5 min. of each and you will be fine. Other than that drive how you want and stay out of the redline as much as you can.

well as long as the needle is not in the COLD part of the guage it is warm enough to begin driving and then it will rise farther and you can let her rip. As far as cool down I give my car a couple of minutes after getting home then shut down. On turbo cars this is more important.

But most important.. like all other cars.. make sure to do maintaince... i change my oil every 1000 miles.. it might be excessive.. but when you think of it.. (FD) has an oil injection to the cumbustion chamber.. I rather shoot clean then dirty..hey.. I spend more on gas.. and 10 bucks every 1000 isnt too bad..

Ya, same here. I warm my engine up for about 3-4 min in the morning. If i stop somewhere to pick somthing up and get back in the car. I only wait for about half a min to about a min. When it cools down i wait about 2-3 min. I really think i should take 1987RX7guy advice and wait 5 min each way. I just think thats a little to excessive.

Nonsense, the motors love to be revved and can take it. I can understand keeping it out of there on warm up of course, but staying away from there as much as you can even when warm? No way man.

 

You have to occasionly redline it anyway to get rid of the carbon deposits that build up. If you can't be arsed to wait for it to cool down, I've seen a gadget from Demon Tweeks which keeps the engine running to cool it down without needing your keys in the ignition - but it does something else to make sure no-one can nick it either!! (disables the accelerator sensor?)

ya beat me to it, kyle. "you should stay out of redline"... thats bullshit. maybe you could say that for a piston motor but not true at all for a rotary. I see rx7's different from everyone else. I'm at Summit Point raceway for almost every MARRS race, and i see tons of rotary racecars which see NOTHING BUT redline. Don't be afraid to take you car to, or above, redline.
