Smile Introducing myself

Hi,
My name's Jory. I'm new to the forum and rotaries in general. I'm a Volkswagen guy, but my friend, spacemanmort, has been enlightening me on the benefits of a piston-less engine
Although I've got quite a few VW projects on my hands right now, I'm starting to keep my eyes open for a decent rotary.

What advice can you give on a good RX-7 to start with? I've driven a friend's base model 1st gen, a series 5 GTU, and a TII with pretty extensive mods. I obviously enjoyed the latter the most, but with my budget and time, that's not an option at this point. Any input on a decent, fairly cheap base to start with is greatly appreciated.
Also, what are some good resources for info on RX-7s? I'm trying to learn everything I can.

Cheers,
Jory

Welcome, I would first decide what generation body style you like the most and what you want to do overall with the car. Second I would make sure that what ever you buy you do a compression test to ensure it will last. Here is the specs on the 2nd gen FC https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/specifications-what-did-2nd-generation-rx-7-come-w-options-standard-features-642372/ found in the 2nd gen section at the top stickied. Here is another few good pages you can read through, http://www.musclecarclub.com/other-c...azda-rx7.shtml

Good luck and welcome to the club.

Oh no more Vdub heads infiltrating the RX7club! (I have a Corrado a Caddy and a 74 Super Beetle) welcome
I think an FB would be the easiest cheapest place to start if you don't mind putting in some elbow grease. (you drive VWs you must be used to putting in your fair share of wrench time) FCs can be had cheap but add a lot of complexity that 20 years will not favor. You can strip 90% of the emissions **** off an FB and make it about as simple as a lawnmower. It won't be the fastest of the bunch but making it fast is half the fun. Get a junk engine, rebuild it, port it, slap a good carb on it, header and exhaust and you'll never wipe the smile off your face. Good luck!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Is the Raddo and SLC or G60?
I've always liked FBs, but driving my friends TII made me kinda lean that way. However, I realize that a TII is probably out of my price range at this time, so an FB would probably be a good starting point. Other than what you mentioned, what are some fairly inexspensive mods for a N/A 12a?
Thanks,
Jory

If you get a 12a that needs a rebuild you can port it when you have it apart and get some real power, here is a link. http://www.rotaryengineillustrated.c...-ports101.html I had a real good porting page for the 12a but the sight is no more. If you don't need to rebuild you can always get full exhaust, racing beat makes some good stuff for the fb, and a new carb, then I am sure you could use a good aftermarket clutch and pressure plate.

Welcome to the dark side!

I never got the message that you said you sent, I think you have to have a post count of 10 or more to send/receive pm's.

What ever happened to the fb that Perry was selling, I forgot completely about it when I found my FD. If he did not want 3500 for it, I would think that would be a good starting point.

Oh and by the way, my car is not a TII, it is an 86 base with a few miner mods (the fact that one looks like a snail is illrelevant ).

Yea, thats the problem. Even if it was worth it, I don't have the coin.
