Instrument cluster light problem

i've got a 1982 rx7

here's the story. i just got my car back together after being painted. had engine bay done as well so everything was removed from the engine bay. i BELIEVE i've put everything back where it should go. now when i turn my lights on the dash lights dont work. all the lights for the idiot cluster belown the tach work fine, turn signals work fine, all the gauges on my dash work fine. just the wonderful orange glow of the numbers doesnt light up. i've pulled it out and checked that everything was connected. i even replaced all the bulbs in the back of it today. still nothing. underneath the dash everything appears to be hooked back up except there are 2 loose wires with female connections on the end. they come off the main harness (the one that goes across the firewall towards the center of the car and then up behind the dash where your right knee would be if you were sitting in the drivers seat). would these have anything to do with it? i dont see where they could go to. or did i maybe miss something in the engine bay thats somehow linked to those lights? any help would be much appreciated cuz its a bit of a bitch to drive at night like this. thanks.
