I think I may be running lean? Help a girl out?
Hey guys, I have just recently installed my racing beat street header back exhaust. I took a pic of the exhaust ports and sent it to a friend. They were very white, and he said that it may be running lean, which is weird for a rotary right?
I expected the car to backfire and shoot flames with the new header back exhaust on there, but I get nothing.
How can I tell if its running lean? I dont have a wideband that I can use. My first thoughts are fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors. What do you guys suggest to check?
Thanks!
Jessica

Edit:
I have a voltmeter, I have access to all basic tools, but not a fuel pressure tester.
Are you thinking I should try and see how much voltage the pump and injectors are putting out?

Running lean means using less fuel than would be desirable per combustion. It sacrifices some power, but increases efficiency. I'm not sure if it's true on rotaries, but on 2 strokes running lean can also cause a helluva lot of damage.

Well im sure the ecu would control the mixture depending on what the 02 and the maf reads. However, instead of increasing the mixture, i need to figure out why the mixture is running lean, which is not how its supposed to run stock.

When was the last time your injectors were cleaned? You might have a clog in one or more which would result in you running lean.
Check the voltage at the fuel pump, and pick up a walbro fuel pump. You will probably want to do the fuel pump re wire.
