I think I may be running lean? Help a girl out?
Hey guys, I have just recently installed my racing beat street header back exhaust. I took a pic of the exhaust ports and sent it to a friend. They were very white, and he said that it may be running lean, which is weird for a rotary right?
I expected the car to backfire and shoot flames with the new header back exhaust on there, but I get nothing. How can I tell if its running lean? I dont have a wideband that I can use. My first thoughts are fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel injectors. What do you guys suggest to check? Thanks! Jessica |
what year/ model?

1987 NA, GLX I believe
|
ok do you have any tools? like a fuel pressure tester, volt meter, or anything to check the vehicle with?
|
EDIT: See below. it's weird because recently I've been getting really GREAT gas mielage, which doesn't quite make sense...
|
Edit:
I have a voltmeter, I have access to all basic tools, but not a fuel pressure tester. Are you thinking I should try and see how much voltage the pump and injectors are putting out? |

Right, and thats exactly what im afraid of. Id just like to have some advice on how I should go about fixing this problem
|
Have you tried adjusting the mixture screws on the carb? Someone else will have to give you the specifics, I've only had my 7 for about 3 weeks, and haven't yet bothered with any engine stuff.
|
Its not carbed, its a fuel injected 13b
|
Thus further proving how little I know about 7s. I'd say for sure it is running lean, though. So instead of focusing your research on that, look into how to enrich the mixture.
|
Well im sure the ecu would control the mixture depending on what the 02 and the maf reads. However, instead of increasing the mixture, i need to figure out why the mixture is running lean, which is not how its supposed to run stock.
Anyone with any experience want to chime in? |
i did a quick search on the forum and i found this
When was the last time your injectors were cleaned? You might have a clog in one or more which would result in you running lean. Check the voltage at the fuel pump, and pick up a walbro fuel pump. You will probably want to do the fuel pump re wire. |
thanks, much appreciated! let's hope this works lol

No need for multiple threads on this. Thread in the 2nd gen section here: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-specific-1986-1992-17/help-girl-out-lean-condition-949528/.
