How much power can a lighter supply?

I have a really small (200W) power inverter and a laptop I would like to run through my cigarette lighter. The laptop has a very low capacity battery and I need something to run my datalogit. My laptop power supply has a max output of 40W, figure in some losses because the inverter and the power supply are not perfect and you get maybe 60W max. Is the lighter going to be able to supply this?

Most lighters can supply up to 10A which is about 140W with the engine running.

Cool, I guess I don't have to worry about electrical fires when running my laptop.

You wouldn't cause an electric fire, you'd just blow a fuse

If I blew a fuse and jumpered it with a wire then I could cause a fire
Don't worry, the only fuse I jumper is the wiper fuse in my REPU, the 7 is safe from that.

most laptops run on 12v and you can get car adapters for them, check out your local radio shack.

Sony had to be difficult though, mine runs on 16V. I haven't even been able to find a Sony-made adaptor for mine. I will look around again, it has been awhile since I last checked.

C'mon, admit it. You're going to try one of those use-my-leafblower-as-a-supercharger projects, aren't you?

The fuse on my FD's cig lighter blew when I tried to use a portable electric airpump on it. Had to use my truck's lighter socket instead...
