How do I mesure Apex seals

Time to take a newb lashing from hell.

How do I messure apex seals... There are two sizes 2mm and 3mm.

I DON'T KNOW WHAT YEAR OR MODEL THIS ENGINE IS FROM.

I do know its a 13B.

So "search function" razzing asside. I am assuming I just messure the thickness of the seal like so...

And that would make these 2mm apex seals.

Well considering there is only 2 real ways to measure a seal like that (the way you did, and then the diameter). Well I guess three ways, you could measure circumference too. But anyways, either of the other two ways would end up being 10+ mm, so I'm gonna say you probably found the correct way.

However, I have no idea.

you need to measure 2 our of the three dimensions anyways...

a 13B seal is 80mm long, 12A is 70mm.

an 86+ 13B is 2mm thick. clearance to the rotor is important

i don't recall the height off the top, but its in the 8.5mm area, this is the wear portion of the seal, so if its too short its used up.

Around 8.4mm tall new. I've seen 8.44mm typically.

7mm or less height needs to be replaced.

So says the shop manual...

I messured the height of my back rotor seals at 6mm average!

I guess they were on their way to blowing out like the front ones did.

also depends how accurate your measuring tools are. for some reason i could swear that looks like a 3mm seal but your gauge shows 2.

The real problem when the seals get short isn't falling out of the rotor as the primary failure, but lack of spring tension leading to poor starting compression and other problems.

i just pulled a 12a apart today, i hope it's okay if i ask a question of my own on your thread but i'm a huge noob so please cut me some slack here.
The 3pce apex seals seem to be in good condition and not very worn and is it okay to but them back into the engine, or do i have to replace them every time i pull the engine apart like a gasket?
cheers

Peejay is correct, I had to replace the seals on my Rx7, it was the reason why my car wouldn't catch/start.
