the guy i bought my rx7 from wasted a lot of time and money in making my 86 rx sound civililized.he said its more expensive to have a fast rx not sound then having it sound really loud.well i guess im an uncivilized savage because i want my rx7 to sound like its going down a 1/4 mile in record time while im just passing though my local streets.i want people to notice my car and recognize thats its no joke.i want old ladies cussing under their breathes saying how that car is too f*cking loud!my rx is fast and i want it to sound that way.it has a racing beat exhaust from the exhaust manifold back to the mufflers.he told me i should take off some of the baffling and to buy a cheap straight pipe.how do i take off the baffling in the muffler?what do you guys think i should do?is louder better?

 

You know there are laws restricting how loud your exhaust can be.

But...just go straight pipes dude, you will be loud.

 

do like I did and cut the catalytics off, and the stock mufflers off. Right now, I'm running straight pipes with a twister and two 3.5 inch echo tips. No backpressure, just wide open exhaust (a twister is a piece metal twister around a pipe). Anyway, it's great fun and it's really loud. I get lots of compliments as well as complaints. It's really kinda funny because I'm the youth pastor at the Methodist Church here, and everyone knows who I am now! That's the only bad thing I do, so it's all good. Anyway, I can now shoot flames too! Have fun! It sounds like a race car at wide open throttle, and going through town it just rumbles. It is, however really annoying cruising along at about 3k RPM's. It just really kinda drones along. Oh well, it's all worth it. I burn a lot more gas now...not because of any reason other than the mere fact that I like to get on it more often now! Thank God for small town police!!

 

What model 7 do you have?

I used to have a Series 4 non turbo (FC?) and was going to just bolt up some aftermarket mufflers. But in the mean time I just took both rear mufflers off. Nice and loud, sounded really good and made my car sound like it was faster than what it really was

Hey, if you were asking me what model of 7 I have...it's an 89 n/a. It's does make it sound A LOT faster than it really is. I get accused of speeding ALL of the time!

 

Complete duel exhaust all the way back will add a few dB (seperate pipes for each rotor).

 

Yes... YES... Soon my friends we will take over the Evil Ones who want us to believe that a muffled rotary is a good rotary! Let us run with open headers and spread the word!

Straight pipes are good, My RX2 with just a resonator and a removed rear muffler made about 130dB at 12,000rpm

yer that 12000rpm was during an exhaust competition here earlier this year.

Although we did drive it to my mechanics with no rear mufler, strapped in with harnesses, people really had to look twice to see if we were driving a race car or not ..... the dirty looks on peoples faces it hilarious ...... specially my neighbor when I was warming it up at 7am on a sunday morning

WHy not run a tube off your headers out the side of the car right after the wheels?

hell you dont need any real exhaust, just get something from headers straight down like a truck.

 

Stick a fog horn in the tail pipe (available at your local marine supply store) and they'll hear u from 2 miles away.
Why would u want to be like one of the Honda boys, making a lot of noise and going no where fast?

I'll put on a quiet exhaust when my car can run mid-10's... until then I can't claim to have a fast car, therefore it must be obnoxious.

 

I'll never forget when i removed my entire exhaust including the reactor (84' 13b).....

It was around 12pm and i decided to start it up HOLY ****!! I thought it was about to blow up!! I must have woken up the street!! It was soo loud, yet i still had to rev it! LOL

Then i did the same when i had only my header and took it up and down the street, sounded like a dragster
If only it i could keep it like that.....

 

Take the presilencer off and have a straight pipe made. RB makes the quietest exhaust around.
