My car had sat with a half tank of gas for nearly two years. It started fine and nothing changed when I filled up with fresh gas after running it nearly empty.

But at some point gas CAN go bad. I have a '63 Ford Fairlane. When I took posession of it the car had been sitting between 7 and 8 years. I drained the tank (it was nearly full). The first part came out somwhat dark and thick smelling like diesel fuel. Somwehere past half tank the consistancy changed to a thin nearly clear liquid smelling like paint thinner. The fuel had separated. There is no way the car could of run what that in the tank.

If you plan on storing a car. Get some fuel stabalizer from the auto parts store. I am not sure it would help a car sitting for 7 years because it is intended for boats and lawn equipment that sit for months at a time.

I drained the tank of the FC that has been sitting in my garage for 4 years and in the PO's driveway for at least one.

The lawnmower wouldn't run on that stuff (it had *no* odor) but the RX-7 didn't care. Rotaries will burn anything stronger than water.

My Cosmo had some old gas with nearly no oder. It was kinda nice when I was changing the fuel pump because the gas that got on my hands wasn't overpowering. It fired right up within a second of cranking for the first time after sitting almost a year.

Yes, peejay is correct. They can run on almost anything.
