help me with my T2

i need to find out whats wrong with my car. the trailing coil does not spark, it is plugged in and my tachometer doesnt work either. ive tried using 2 other coil packs from other T2s of the same year and they didnt work either. just got the motor in the car and this about the only problem with it. its an 87 T2 with a S5 block.

Then it's down to...

Wiring to and from the trailing coils - check the plugs to see if they are seated firmly
You ran into a trio of bad coils - unlikely
Something bad in the ECU

Original wiring, at this age, will have its flaws. Now this is my using logic and some experience on my buddies t2. Basically the older the car is, the hotter it might have been, oil/grease or anyhthing else on the connectors will eventually lead to failure. This could be the connectors, or if it sustained enough damage, could have harmed other circutry in the process. Just clean, and use some common sense. If the plug is corroded, or has be oil, it may be worn out and not want to fit correctly. Try what RETed said, and come back if you have evidence those do or dont work, It'll help in the long run.

we have grounded the motor more than it was since it only had 1 ground, and checked all plugins on the ecu, ill try more stuff tomorrow. ive called 2 rotary shops and they said its probably the wiring or 3 bad coils ive ran into but it has to be something else than just those 2 possiblitys they gave me. thanks for the help ill try more tomorrow

Double check the plugs going into the trailing coils themselves.
Some of them are very hard to seat correctly, and it could be loose.
