Help! Do I have A wrong flywheel?
I put my larger 1983 flywheel on my 82 motor so I could use my aftermarket clutch. While looking at rotor weights on the mazdatrix website I see that the 82 and 83 had different weights. Is this going to cause a problem when I start this thing up? Do I need to put the smaller 82 flywheel clutch assy on the motor? HELP!

This is listed in their explanation section at:

Hope this helps,

NOTE: Excluding the TURBO, all the different flywheels and clutches, from 74 through 92, are basically divided by 215mm clutch (74-82), and 225mm (83-92), then by rear counterweight needed for the engine. We mix and match these all the time. This means if you want to put the larger diameter clutch assembly on a pre-83 application, just let us know - it is no problem. You just need to remember what diameter you have when you next purchase clutch parts.

To clarify...
The problem isn't with flywheel weight, the problem is with flywheel imbalance. What Mazdatrix meant about mixing and matching is if you want to put a 225mm clutch on an early engine, they will give you the correct automatic counterweight (which a lightweight flywheel bolts to) and the larger-diameter lightweight flywheel.
Looking at the counterweight chart, '79-82 use a different counterweight from '83-85. So no, you can't put an '83 flywheel on an '82 engine.
I prefer the 215mm clutch myself, it has less rotating mass on the trans input shaft = easier/faster shifting and longer synchro life. I noticed a difference when I went to a 225mm clutch on the same transmission. Unfortunately I had no choice for the same reason as your problem... can't put an '80 flywheel on an '84 engine.
Also the '81-82 flywheels are the lightest of the bunch!
