Hi guys I need a bit of help with the wiring harness. Since I haven’t worked on an RX7 before, I’m not 100% sure what I have and what I’m missing. But as I understand it
There’s a wiring harness coming from the driver’s side connected to the battery, starter, brake booster, and probably more.
I don’t have anything for the front of the car at all, so I can’t see what’s missing there. There’s also a wiring harness coming from the ECU that connects to the engine, but I don’t know if it connects to anything else.
There are some connectors on the passenger side that can’t be connected to the engine wiring harness.
There are no ABS connectors on the engine wiring harness I have. However, I do have a cut harness with ABS connectors on it.
My idea was to buy a complete wiring harness from both sides.
Does anyone have one available? And how can I be 100% sure I get the right one?
Your first image is the engine harness. It comes out from the passenger firewall where the ECU is and connects entirely to the engine and components mounted on the engine. It appears to be complete.
Your 2nd image appears to be the 'front' or 'horsehoe' harness. Called "horsehoe" because it wraps around the entire engine bay and goes into the firewall on both driver and passenger sides. It controls everythimg on the car not related directly to the engine. You, however, are missing 90% of it. All you have is the driver side grommet, some of the plugs on the cabin side, and a few plugs in the engine bay that connect to things near the driver side firewall (igniters, cruise control, etc). This needs a full replacement.
Your 3rd image is the "charging harness". It contains all the electrical stuff in the engine bay -- connectimg to the battery, all the fuses, etc. It appears to be complete.
Engine harnesses for LHD cars are rarely found New any longer. But connectors are readily available to make your own or perhaps replace any nad plugs you need on that harness. Aftermarket replacements start at about $900 and go up from there.
Front harnesses are NLA (no longer available) from Mazda and not regularly sold as almost anyone with a running car needs theirs. They pop up occassionally for sale well-used at $1-$2k.
Charging harnesses can still be had new if you need one and will run you about $800.
Your ECU harness, which is your first image, shouldn't have any ABS plugs. If it has something that looks like it, it's just a coincidence the plug types match.
I do not know the differences in LHD vs RHD to tell you for absolute certainty which you have. But that front harness pretty much has to be LHD based on how it is configured. The ECU harness I understand to only be minimally different between RHD and LHD regardless.
It appears complete. I cannot speak to its' condition or anything. After 30+ years many are in pretty **** condition.
But I need to get new harness from driverside/fues box that U harness ?
And I need to get front harness, this is not inclkuded in the driversside harness ?
There is no "driver" harness. There is a front harness (or "U" harness or "horseshoe" harness) that goes all the way from the driver side fuse box, all around the engine bay, and into the passenger side.
And you need one of those. Because yours was cut and you have only a small fraction left.
I need to correct myself though. And I think that is the source of some confusion. Your front harness was cut on the PASSENGER side. That is why you said you have the ABS plugs. Because all you have left are the few plugs that plug into the ABS pump on the LHD passenger side. With such a small bit left, it was harder for me to tell which end you had.
So, on that link I gave you, what you have left is "Block 4" not 1.
Regardless, you need that whole harness.
I cant find the place in the firewall at driver side for the harness ? There is a round rubber ghromet on the harness.
You need to remove the fender. That harness runs over the wheels on both sides. On the driver side it comes out above ans behind some fuse boxes right next to the clutch pedal.
ha taken the fusebox from the battery harness. Does this come with the front harness ? asking because wires was cut.
That is the main relay fuse box in "Block 2" of that link I gave you. It is part of the front harness.
Be SUPER cautious on Facebook. There are a lot of scammers from accounts that seemginly even have thousands of followers, making them appears legitimate. By and large, I find individuals to be good. But if an account is from a "company" selling parts, especially if the price seems too-good-to-be-true, unfortunately there are high odds it's a scam. Reverse image search everything and make sure it's not a re-post from someone else's ad. And do not use any payment method that doesn't have protection. I know it all sounds very elementary, but scamming in the rotary community is unfortunately a very common occurrence. The group I posted above seems to do a better-than-average job of filtering out the scammers.
I believe @MattGold just sold a front harness in that FB group. He's always a great source for stuff -- usually more aftermarket but some hard-to-find OEM stuff too. @tomsn16 is frequently breaking up cars and you'll find his threads in our Marketplace. His stuff tends to sell super quick because of his magical ability to tear-down cars and sell parts that are somehow seemingly better than they were brand-new from Mazda 30 years ago. He does magic at refurbishing or completely rebuilding everything he touches. And @BrekyrseIf just always seems to have parts to sell somehow. I think he has a secret warehouse full of parts or some sort of device that just continually spits out FD parts as he never seems to run out. All great guys I've bought from a number of times. I highly doubt any just happen to have a front harness sitting around given their rarity and value, but it never hurts to ask because Matt just sold one the other day. You never know. So I'd reach out and maybe if they come across one they can keep you in mind.
Thanks for the advice — unfortunately I’ve already learned this the hard way.
I recently paid for a Greddy V-Mount intercooler through a Facebook parts page and it turned out to be a scam. Fake logistics company, fake tracking site, and then they asked for “refundable shipping insurance.”
I’ve also been approached by scammers pretending to be Phil’s Rotary and Randy’s Rotary, and even a friend sent me a FB page he thought was legit that turned out to be a copy. On my last parts wanted post someone even tagged a scammer directly. Honestly I’m a bit shocked by how much scamming there is in the rotary community right now.
From now on I’m only dealing with verified sellers, asking for photos with name + date, and never using bank transfer without protection.
Appreciate the recommendations — I’ll reach out to Matt, tomsn16 and BrekyrseIf and keep an eye on the FD3S parts groups 👍

Ugh. I’m sorry to hear that. There are WAY too many scams, period. Back in the day it was much less sophisticated guys here. Mostly people just out of their depth (took money for something, but couldn’t figure out a safe way to ship it, it arrives damaged, they claim no responsibility).
But now a days guys are organized and go to extreme lengths; “duping” real FB pages, organizing huge groups and using their clout as a “mod” to scam and then delete negative feedback / ban the scammed. IG accounts are another complete roll of the dice.
The real problem is - there are WAY more legit sellers than scammers. But the bad apples spoil the bunch. Your best bet is taking a breath, not being pushed into a quick sale and asking the group (here or the main RX-7 FB Group) for feedback before purchasing. I think that would head off 99% of the scams.
As far as staying on topic goes, I have a complete engine and battery/ground harness here.
no body harness.
Feel free to DM, but I’ll also be posting it shortly.
