General Brake Question

Where to start looking with these symptoms:

Brake pedal gets firm after 1-2 pumps, meaning the solid feel comes right up to the top when the car is not running.

Car running, the pedal goes down what feels like 1/2-1" before it feels solid.

The car is up on stands, and I've just re-bled the entire system.

I'm thinking of adjusting the pedal free play, but thought I'd throw it out here first. No ABS. Disc fronts, drum rears. No leaks in any hoses.

Behavior started after changing fron pads and doing a full purge of the brake system (flushed out the old fluid). Never once ran the master cylinder dry, not seeing any bubbles-- I could swear this is air bubbles.

Any suggestions appreciated!

(No, it's not my T2)

when you bled the system did you hit all the proportioning valves if not i would do that...when i bought my 7 i had to replace the master cylinder to dirve it home. I spent probably 2.5 hrs bleeding the system b 4 i was happy. So if you havn't hit the valves try that. Otherwise try adjusting the pedal
