gauge reading question

i just installed my autometer boost gauge last night and have a few questions.

first off i have a downpipe, no cats, and 3 inch exhaust so i know i am hitting overboost. i had unplugged the tube that connects from BOV to boost sensor and it stopped, is this a bad idea?

second when i hooked up the boost gauge it says i am boosting around 10 psi is this the normal overboost thing or is it just wack and i need to find another place to hook up the vaccum line?

i hooked up the vaccum line from the gauge to the tube that comes off the BOV that i had unhooked from the boost sensor. is this a good place to hook it up or not?
