gauge does not read RPMs

my gauge does not read RPMs in my FD. The needle just bounces around, some times it works for 2 or so min after start up but then stops working. Im trying to figure out if its a bad gauge or sensor. So my question is where is the rpm sensor and how can i test it?

Well, if FDs are anything like FCs the RPMs are actually read from the trailing coil pack. Probably not grounded properly, mine was loose and as soon as I tightened it up it worked like a charm!

However the speedometer for you middle man I'm assuming is still cable driven on FDs so that's not related.

The way you can look at it is the leading and the trailing coilpacks are where their located on the car. The one in front of the drivers side shock tower is the leading, the one behind (the one your looking for) is behind the drivers side shock tower. Check to see if it's bolted down properly, so right by the brake booster and brake fluid reservoir, can't miss it. =p
