Flywheel, and Air pump ?s
Flywheel, and Air pump ?s
I just did some weasal work on my car
.... put in my short shifter, took out the ENTIRE a/c, air pump, spare tire, stereo, radiator/oil cooler (for cleaning), replaced the thermostat, and a bunch of yadda yadda's.... anyways my next purchase: clutch/flywheel, fuel (filter, pump, injectors), and a couple guages... I'm having a hard time justifying a $600 cromoly flywheel, although I know if I want light AND strong, it's the way to go. With a 6-puck race clutch, and the power I'm lookin at makin, I can't go aluminum, so lightened steal is the only other option. What is the LIGHTEST light steal flywheel, and is it strong (not machined too ****** thin). What's your opinion on flywheel =)?
Another quicky... I took out the air pump, and plugged the air box connection, I also noticed the air pump has a hose that feeds into the intake (right above the turbo compressor, going into the intercooler). What should I do with that hose... just leave it danglin =)? Thanks in advance...

If I can remember correctly, 8lbs is the lightest flywheel, although I, myself, went with the 18lb flywheel and am glad I didn't go any lighter. About the hose to the intake, I removed it when I got my cold air intake, and put a small, but similar filter on the air pump.
My roomate...
...Drakk has a 9.5 aluminum on his N/A, and I've driven it... the thing is absolutely easy to drive. It revs like hell, but unless you can't drive for ****, you get used to it within 5 starts. My main concern is launching... My turbo is very tricky to launch now that I got my exhaust. It starts spooling @ like 2500 and is fully spooled by 3500, meaning there is only a split second to slip the clutch correctly or I burn the tires to ****. Before the exhaust it spooled very slow, and was simple to launch. So I'm thinkin with a light *** flywheel, the revs (and therefore the boost) will increase that much faster making a drop-clutch launch the only way to launch. Just wondering if anyone has experience with this. Drag racing is only marginally important to me, but as of now I'm still leaning towards the light steel one. Thanks for the responses...
