FD questions.

I have a touring 1993 manual rx-7 and I noticed a few things acting funny so I wanted to know how to correct these problems. First the car loves to back fire when I'm driving it will do it especially in the morning also when I'm letting it sit after a drive I notice it putts alot. Also when I lift the hood I hear a little sizzle around the upper intake manifold. If you guys can help me out and let me know how to correct these problems or if their normal please let me know. Thanks for your time!

the sizzle is probably an oil leak. do you have any smoke?

What mods are done to this car?

Start with basic maintenance:

* Change the fluids
* Change the spark plugs
* Check the plug wires (may need to be replaced)
* Change the O2 sensor
* Change the fuel filter

Now, if you still have the backfiring problem after the basic maintenance and it happens at times other than decelleration on the road; it may be more of a mechanically issue.

As for the sizzling, pull the manifold off and see if you notice anything residue which may be burning off the hot engine.

No the car doesn't smoke at all just back fires and the sizzling just started to happen, but I'll go ahead and change out those parts. As for the mods just a down and mid pipe. But thanks a lot for helping an FD guy out...hey I ran a 14.47 with those mods is there a problem with that or something normal R/T was .688

you shouldn't be running an open exhaust on a stock ecu, for one thing.

14.47 is normal if you're not a great driver.

Oh ok ya I ordered a Power FC already because I've heard that I might be running lean, but I thought something was wrong with it because that was my first time at the track and I was kinda beating myself up about that time. But hey thanks I really appreciate your help!

Quick question, why is my car making a putting sound when I'm just letting it cool down after a drive? Is it because of the exhaust or is there something wrong I ordered the parts for the backfiring and gonna have to check the manifold for the sizzling.

if it is 'clickin' then that is normal, just the metal exhaust components cooling down.
