Question facts about rotary's

i am about to get my 1995 rx7 twin turbo, and i need to know from rx7 drivers, is it good to get a rotary powered car. a lot of people have told me that they have lots of problems and that i should keep my integra, but i want to get the rx7 because it runs perfect and it costs $2500(hook up from my friend), which is about $20000 less than list price. so is it a bad idea to get the car or should i say screw them and burn them o the track? plz help, newbie here.

ps. the car costs $2500 because my friend has 5 of them and i always wanted one so he is giving to me basically.

Thats kind of like asking if its good to buy a piston powered car. Its subjective on who you ask. Everyone here is going to say hell yeah whereas everyone on the Honda forum will say no. Understand that the car you intend to buy is one of the most problematic cars out there. It is common knowledge however on how to remedy these problems but some of them aren't cheap. The engines suffer from premature (in relation to other rotaries) water seal failure, the turbos don't last forever, there are so many vaccuum lines under the manifold that control the twin turbo system that they are often the source of headaches. Regardless I'll take that car in a second! Its one of the best looking cars ever made IMO, handles wonderfully, and has so much potential above its already fantastic abilites. I say go for it. Just find out what has been done to the car as far as repair work and recalls. It has so much more inherent potential than the Integra does. Honda/Acuras were built for reliability, cost, and gas mileage. The RX-7 was designed for performance. You can theoretically get a Honda faster than a stock RX-7 but with equal funds invested in each it just isn't a contest. After you drive a rotary powered vehicle it is so hard to go back. Yes I am biased since I have 2 of them but I also have a Honda and I would give it up long before even my '84 RX-7.

Well, I dasagree about the price. lb. for lb. a honda motor WILL make more power than the RX7 fro cheaper. I have helped tune some cars (civic) with a stock GSR motor putting out almost 500whp. running a 10.3 in the quarter mile . His whole setup including the car was under 10,000. (that includes tuning) but then again I have to say that even I have always had a craving for the styling and twin turboness (Not really a word) of the beautiful RX-7. I currentlly own a teg and I have to say I am looking for an RX7. not really because I think their better, just looking for something different. Anyways, I think that the styling is about the same. I love the Teg and I really like the RX7 it's a tear between the two. Well, I hope my pointless rambling helped you out some.

Later,

Sean C.

P.S. Check the pics below for the styling differences:

Not the best pic but it'll do...

and the 7:

And I have to pull for the teg cuz I would really hate to never see this beauty in my car again...:

I would have to say no. Since you actually asked this question it is obvious that you know nothing about the rotary engine and definately not enough to properly care for a 95 rx7. Stick with your integra for now and learn keep learning about rx7s, maybe in another year you will be ready.

A STOCK GSR motor will absolutely positively not ever in a hundred million years make 500 hp without aid from another source. A stock motor is a straight bolt in as is with all components. I know you really mean a stock block when turbocharged and tuned correctly. (I'm just picking on you!) To this I can reply that Ari at Rotary Performance once used a Mazda stock block 13B with a big turbo and a 75 shot of nitrous to put down over 600 rwhp. He even raced it for an entire season at this level (26 psi boost+ nitrous). I can pick up my engine by myself. I can't pick up a Honda engine. So I have to disagree with the pound for pound statement as well. If you think that block looks good check out a nice clean rotary sometime

It's all cool dude I will have that beautiful rotary soon so I'll know what everybody is raving about. Sorry, I had to bust some ***** with my Honda achievments. But yah, the motor was a stock GSR motor turbocharged tuned with a Hondata. But that's good to hear that the 13B can hold it's own with all the stock apex seals. that's the only thing I was worried about but good to hear it happens. Well I had fun bustin' some ***** and getting shot back down... Anyways.

Sean C.
