I got a '87 13B taken all apart here, and I want to know what would happen if I removed the diffusers. Not just the little flat thing that goes across the hole, I mean the whole thing. Its held in place by 2 pins. If I drill the pins out and remove the diffuser, would that do anything bad? I asked this in the 2nd Gen forum, and didn't get an answer. Looking at the rotor housing from the outside, the diffuser is funnel shaped, getting wider as the exhaust flows out. I want remove the whole thing, and then street port the housing. Anyone see a problem here? Anyone done this before? Any input? Some tech data other than "don't do it" would be nice.

 

if i'm reading your post right, then you're talking about the steel sleeve? am i correct?

well, removing it will allow the exhaust heat to radiate through the rotor housing a lot more than it does. i would imagine that it won't kill the motor, but i think you're better off having it than not. according to RB they can sometimes work themselves loose and start to rattle, at which point, they can be removed simply to get rid of the annoyance.

 

You know so much! I'm just going to start sending you PMs about this stuff. I been posting threads and searching through archives for 2 days trying to figure out what that thing is for and if it would be safe to remove it.

ok, I got the highly recommended COLD CHISELS and will remove the flat plate thingy in the exhaust port, but I will leave the diffuser itself in there.

 

Leave the sleeve in. There is too much turbulence without them. There is actually too much with them in but it is worse without. The sleeves also help keep the heat away from the actual aluminum on the housing. It still gets hot just not as much. Grind the diffuser out, use a T-II set, or get new custom made ones. I have some on mine and they work great. Removing them will only hurt your power output.

 

Thats what I'm going to do. I'll leave it in, but grind out that piece in the middle.
