CA Engine wont hold idle

At 3 am on last sunday my 1988 fc turbo decided to stop working properly.
I was driving at no more then 20 mph, as i would pass the friction zone on the clutch toward engagement the engine would stall, no engagement at all from the clutch then it would die. I have no clue what could cause this, please help!!!
Also, after getting the car towed to my place I tryed starting it; the car starts but revs up to exactly 3000rpm the slowly drops to 0rpm and stals. Also compleatly bizar, I have no clue what the issue is.
Any leads would be awesome!

You could have a vacuum leak. Make sure the AFM is connected good. Try jumpering the fuel check connector and attempt to start the car.
